Property Spain - A Low Risk Long Term Investment Market

Despite the recent slowdown in the global property investment market, the Spanish housing market can still offer significant benefits to investors. The Travel and Tourism Index now ranks Spain at 15 in the world, rising 13 places from its previous position at 28 in 2006, as visitor numbers rose by 0.7% in December 2007 to over 2.2 million, according to the Ministry of Tourism. As visitor numbers increase, revenue from tourism also rises; for 2006 as a whole tourist spending rose 4.7% from the previous year generating €8 million.

A Mature Property Market

The Spanish real estate market has seen sustained growth since 1993, with significant rises from 2001 to 2004. Prices continue to rise, but with a slower growth rate - 15% in 2006 and 21% in 2007 compared to 2005 prices. While there is the prospect of further slowdown in the rate of growth, the Spanish market offers real potential for ongoing returns. Investors benefit from extensive historical data on this well-established marketplace when making investment decisions. Should any price fluctuation occur, investors who retain their property through a period of slowdown can still realize on their investment, when price growth resumes.
